FAQs and Questions to ask your DJ
Yes, DJ Paul Michaels carries a $1 Million liability insurance policy and can provide copies to venues as requested.
Yes. In order to secure your event you need both a contract to be signed, as well as the non-refundable retainer fee to be paid. Contracts are completely digital and can be signed from your computer, Smartphone, Tablet, etc.
No. A request list is always appreciated, as well as a DO NOT PLAY list. Formal songs relating to the event (first dance, parent dance, intro song, etc) will be picked out with DJ Paul Michaels throughout the planning process, but you do not have to pick out any songs for the rest of the event if you don’t feel inclined to do so. DJ Paul Michaels is well versed in many types of events, including, but not limited to weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, School dances, and Corporate parties. He will use his discretion as needed to ensure appropriate songs, as well as songs your crowd will enjoy will be played.
No. Today’s sound systems are much more efficient and louder than those of the past. The sound can easily reach to all corners of the room. In addition, the older guests sitting near the speakers may complain that it is too loud for them.
This is completely up to you, but Paul recommends allowing your guests to make requests. Generally the guests will want to hear songs that they know and love. If your event includes a dinner (for example, Weddings), DJ Paul Michaels can visit the tables to get an idea of what each table is looking to hear at that event. When he does this, he is not necessarily making a playlist, but more getting a feel for the guests so he knows what TYPE of music to play.
DJ Paul Michaels has been working in the Chicagoland area for years and is very familiar with many venues in the area. For venues where Paul has never played, he will generally schedule a site walk with the venue staff prior to your event to review the load-in, setup, room size, and amenities to ensure there are no surprises the day of your event.
No. You pay for the performance time (from the time music begins, to the time music ends). However, the contract will indicate how much time Paul and his staff need in order to setup and tear down before/after an event.
This depends on the type of event, but will always be clearly listed in your contract. Generally, the non-refundable retainer is due at the time of signing the contract and the final balance will be due two weeks prior to your event.
There is a fee for travel outside further than 45mi from “Chicago, IL” (according to Google Maps), however you would be aware of this after speaking with Paul about your event. As far as charges for special requests, generally no (unless there is a cost associated). If there is a charge for parking a vehicle at your venue, you would be responsible for paying for this ahead of time, or reimbursing the actual cost (no additional fees). Remember - Paul loves working with his clients to make each event unique and exactly as his clients want it to be! Generally most odd/special requests can be done with no additional charge.
No. Tips are never expected, but are highly appreciated if you feel the service received was above and beyond your expectations!
Checks, Cash, Chase QuickPay (compatible with Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, First Bank), and Credit Cards are all accepted. Please keep in mind that there are nominal fees associated with using credit cards. These fees are listed in your contract.
